Compact and maintenance-free DC UPS modules with Supercaps
The UPSIC-1205 convinces as a particularly innovative and economical solution for the uninterruptible DC power supply. To protect against voltage fluctuations, flicker, voltage drops or failures in the supply voltage, the DC UPS modules are equipped with ultracapacitors (so-called Supercaps) as energy storage devices that work on the principle of double-layer capacitors (EDLC).
Due to the high cycle stability (> 500,000 charging and discharging cycles), the Supercap UPS solutions have a particularly long service life and are absolutely maintenance-free. This means an increase in long-term availability while minimizing the maintenance effort of the supplied system. Due to the compact dimensions, a high power density and the corresponding interface configuration, the integration into a wide range of sensitive applications is possible.
The compact DC UPS modules guarantee the reliable and uninterruptible power supply of DC consumers such as Low-power embedded IPCs, gateways, motors, sensors, actuators, card readers, cameras, security technology.
Maintenance-free Supercaps as energy storage
Equipped with high-quality 3 Volt Supercaps (4x 100F capacity), the DC UPS modules are fully charged in a maximum of 60 seconds and are designed for fanless 24/7 continuous operation in the extended temperature range from -20 to +70°C. For uninterruptible DC power supplies, there are absolutely maintenance-free long-life Supercaps (ultra-capacitors) available as highly efficient and particularly long-lasting energy storage devices with more than 500,000 charge and discharge cycles in the area of short and medium bridging times. In contrast to batteries, which store energy via a detour through a chemical reaction, Supercaps are based on electrophysical principles and are charged and ready for use within a very short time. Under comparable operating conditions, Supercaps have a service life that is up to ten times longer than that of classic lead-acid batteries. Energy storage systems with supercapacitors also impress with their high current carrying capacity, power density and reliability.
'Power Sharing' with intelligent input current detection
In normal operation, the system electronics forwards the input voltage to the output with a minimal reduction, charges the supercapacitors and monitors the voltage thresholds at the input. If the voltage falls below the defined threshold, the Supercap UPS switches over to UPS backup mode within fractions of a second and provides an uninterruptible and regulated DC voltage supply at the output. The intelligent distribution of the charging currents (PowerSharing) at the input ensures that the upstream AC/DC power supply has not to be oversized, due to the input power is kept constant and is distributed appropriately to the DC load and the Supercap charger. With low load at the output, more energy flows into the Supercap charger and vice versa.
Data monitoring and preprogramming for self-sufficient operation
With help of the UPS Control Center software, settings on the DC UPS can be made conveniently. The software can be downloaded free of charge. In addition, an extensive set of commands enables the direct reading of sensor values and the setting of parameters. The continuous acquisition of operating data allows "data monitoring" in real time. The open communication protocol offers system developers individual options for connecting to their own system.
Shutdown & Reboot function for IPC systems
(with µExtension module PSZ-1063)
In the event of a "PowerFail", the DC UPS signals the failure via the integrated interface, so that a controlled shutdown of the computer system is initiated and valuable data can be saved. The integrated reboot function of the DC UPS automatically initiates the restart of the supplied IPC after the supply voltage has returned, without the need for costly on-site intervention by a service employee, e.g. with completely self-sufficient computer systems in inaccessible locations.
